NORTH VANCOUVER YOUTH MUSICIANS
BRING CELTIC MUSIC TO THE SCOTS
In summer 2016, twenty players from the Senior NSCE traveled to the Aberdeen International Youth Festival in Scotland. The players were accompanied by Claude Giguère and Jay Knutson, the artistic directors and founders of the NSCE, as well as rhythm musician Will Ross and parent chaperones. After the 8-day festival concluded in late July, the entire group headed further north to the Isle of Skye. Musical highlights of the trip included collaborations with Ghanian drummers, performing at the Skye summer festival and the gala finale performance of the Aberdeen World Youth Festival at His Majesty's Theatre in Aberdeen. The trip schedule was fast paced and a bit hectic as most days included a rehearsal and a concert in addition to sightseeing and travel to and from venues. Although the trip ended all too quickly, the players have fond memories and new musical additions to the repertoire of the NSCE.

Congratulations to Artistic Director Claude Giguère for receiving the Outstanding Supporter of Youth Award from the City of North Vancouver. This award recognizes a mentor or agency that has provided exceptional support and services to youth. We've known how wonderful he is for years - it's nice to see him recognized publicly.
